Long Stay Visas (OA, OX)

Thailand offers long-term stay visas for retirees and wealthy foreigners who wish to reside in the country for extended periods. The two main options are the O-A (Retirement) Visa and the O-X (Long-Term Resident) Visa.

1. O-A Retirement Visa

• Validity: 1 year (renewable annually).

• Stay Period: Up to 1 year per entry (multiple entries allowed).

• Requirements:

  • Age 50+ years.

  • Proof of financial means (e.g., 800,000 THB in a Thai bank, or 65,000 THB monthly income).

  • Health insurance (minimum 40,000 THB outpatient / 400,000 THB inpatient coverage).

• Benefits: No need to leave Thailand during the visa’s validity.

2. O-X Long-Term Resident Visa

• Validity: 5 years (renewable for another 5 years).

• Stay Period: Up to 5 years per entry (must report every year).

• Requirements:

  • Age 50+ years.

  • Higher financial proof (3 million THB in a Thai bank or 1.2 million THB annual income).

  • Health insurance (minimum $100,000 USD coverage).

• Benefits: Longer stay, fewer renewals, and family inclusion possible.
